Carpe Diem
Rooted in the timeless philosophy of seizing the day, each piece is a reminder to slow down, stay present and appreciate life.
"Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." - Horace, Odes I.11 ("Seize the day, trusting as little as possible in tomorrow")
Chapter I
The Poet's Instruction
"Carpe Diem" (seize the day) is one of the oldest instructions ever given to a human being. It comes from the Roman poet Horace, written in his Odes in 23 BCE, a reminder that each day is a fleeting gift that will not return.
The phrase outlived the empire that produced it. Renaissance poets and painters returned to it again and again, using it to hold beauty and mortality in the same frame, a skull beside a rose, a candle beside an hourglass. It became a way of saying: look at what is in front of you, now, because it will not stay.
This collection is François's response to that instruction.
Chapter II
What Yields, Endures
The Carpe Diem Rings adapt naturally to your finger, offering exceptional comfort while making a confident statement. Each piece is built to be worn, not stored. A small, daily act of paying attention to the present moment.
Chapter III
Hands That Remember
Every Carpe Diem piece begins on François Santo's own bench. Trained in his family's jewellery business from the age of 16 and tutored by his jeweller uncle, François went on to train and collaborate with the renowned Italian gem setter, engraver, enameller and painter Elvio Sorrentino, carrying three generations of Roman jewellery-making into his own hands.
Described as "a poet-dreamer wrapped in an engineer's mind," he sketches each design before a single stone is set, and sees every piece through to completion in our Sydney atelier.
Nothing here is designed by committee, and every piece that leaves the bench has passed through the same hands that drew it.
Chapter IV
Three Colours, Three Hours
Carpe Diem is built around three gemstones, each holding its own hour of the day. Burmese rubies for the urgency and warmth of midday. Royal blue sapphires for the depth and stillness of dusk. Colombian emeralds for the renewal of first light.
Together, they trace the arc of a single day worth seizing.
