Waratah

A radiant tribute to the wild poetry of the Australian landscape, this brooch/pendant captures the unmistakable silhouette of the Waratah in a bold, contemporary voice. Its petals unfurl in sculptural rhythm, each form fluid yet deliberate, like a bloom caught in the moment between strength and surrender.
Crafted from anodised aluminium, the piece carries a luminous, almost liquid sheen. Its surface is alive with light, shifting subtly as it moves. The cataforesi red plating deepens this vitality, saturating the form in a rich, enveloping hue that echoes the intensity of the native flower while creating a seamless chromatic dialogue between metal and stone. At its heart, a constellation of Burmese rubies set in 14kt yellow gold glows with quiet fire. These stones - deep, vivid, and organic - anchor the composition, their clustered brilliance evoking the dense, nectar-rich core of the waratah. The warmth of gold beneath them offers a gentle contrast, like sunlight filtering through petals, enhancing their natural luminosity.
The interplay of materials (industrial aluminium, precious gold, and natural gemstones) creates a tension that feels both modern and timeless. It is a piece that speaks of resilience and beauty born from rugged terrain, a wearable sculpture that celebrates nature not through imitation, but through interpretation. Bold yet refined, it rests between art and adornment, an emblem of place, memory, and enduring elegance.
