MIVERVA Necklace
- Artist's Notes
- Technical Details
The MIVERVA Necklace started, like all my creations, with an alchemy of inspiration and curiosity.
The Inspiration side comes from Etruscan Mythology; Minerva is the most important Roman goddess and one of the three Roman deities in the Capitoline Triad, along with Jupiter and Juno.
She is the Goddess of Wisdom, strategic warfare, justice, law and victory. Not a patron of violence such as Mars, she is often depicted with her sacred owl, symbolizing her association with wisdom and knowledge. She is also considered to be the “idea” and the plan for the Universe personified.
Now the visionary inspiration:
The necessity of exploring new creative expressions has always been an ingrained feature of my personality.
The idea of experiencing new materials combined with traditional techniques is both exciting and enchanting. It is a poem written without a pen, on pages of “non-paper”. The poem is there, but we cannot get our heads around on how to read or interpret it, as it throws our conventional interpretation into confusion.
Research and development in jewellery is the only way for a modern and unconventional narrative.
Master jewellers such as Lalique, Vever, Suzanne Belperron, and Jar, were artful and curious souls, but above all they were visionaries. Able to envision their dreams and shapeshift them into material eternal objects.
The lockdown in Sydney gave me time to gather some ideas and develop them into tactile forms.
I have always been obsessed with the concept of chromatic continuity between metal and gemstones.
The Minerva Necklace is a combination of Anodized Aluminium (yes of course by me), Platinum, Yellow Gold, Natural Diamonds, royal blue Sapphire, Amethysts, Blue Topaz, and Blacked Starling Silver for the organic hinge, I designed the hinge with the intention of making it with reminiscence of a human spine, I wanted the necklace to have an organic “legacy” and connection.
It is a piece for a timeless Queen. It will empower whoever wears it.
Platinum, 14kt Royal Yellow Gold, Blacked Sterling Silver, Anodised Aluminum, Diamonds, Royal Blue Sapphires, Rhodolites, Amethysts, Blue Topazes
